HELP RAISE MONEY for YCP through crowdfunding with weeve!

Funding special events will allow over 75 young carers opportunities to participate in monthly outings they normally can't attend. These activities let young carers connect with one another while having an amazing time. It also gives them a break from their caregiving role at home. The results are improved self-esteem, emotional well-being, a chance to just be a 'kid' for a while, and most of all a chance to meet others so they know they are not alone in their caregiving experience.

WHAT IS A YOUNG CARER?

A child or youth 5-18 years old in a caregiving role for a parent, grandparent, sibling or any relative 
with a chronic or life threatening illness, disability, addiction, mental illness, or language barrier.

WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE young carers

It's easy to overlook the effects and needs of Young Carers since support is often focused on the family member needing care. Caregiving can build great strengths, but it can also be very hard. Young Carers can  have mixed emotions about their role and it can feel very lonely and overwhelming at times. Young carers may feel stressed, angry and sad, and their school work and social life may suffer which puts them at risk.

WHAT DOES THE YOUNG CARERS PROGRAM DO?

The Young Carers Program offers a variety of FREE programs, workshops and special events throughout Toronto. YCP provides social, recreational, educational, and skill development opportunities for Young Carers by connecting them with peers, building resilience and self esteem, and giving them time to have fun!
