ARE you A YOUNG CARER or do you know a young carer that wants to get involved?

How to become a member

  1. You must be a Young Carer. Our organization defines Young Carers as any child or youth 5-18 years old in a care-giving role for a parent, grandparent, sibling or any relative with a chronic or life threatening illness, disability, addiction, mental illness, or language barrier.
  2. A referral to the program must be completed by filling out the Referral form. Once you have filled in the form, fax it in to us (647-797-2283). Alternatively, you call us directly at 416-364-1666 and we can fill it out for you.
  3. Eligible families will be contacted to set up an intake meeting to assess the needs of the young person and their family.
  4. We will do an intake assessment and determine eligibility.
Then you are a member! You will receive news and information on our upcoming programs, and you can pick and choose what events and activities you'd like to participate in.

Programs are of no cost to eligible families.

With extra supports in place, young carers can achieve their full potential!

why become a member?

For many Young Carers it is the first time they have met other kids who also help take care of someone. This in itself has been so helpful for all of our members as they realize they are not the only ones doing this! For many it is the first opportunity they've had to open up and express their feelings.

Top Benefits of the Young Carers Program

1. Fun & free activities for children  and youth where “kids can just be kids” . We also provide Young Carers a chance to do things they might not have the opportunity to do (i.e. sporting events, concerts and other outings).

2. Children and youth get to hang out with other Young Carers, so they are no longer isolated and have friends who have similar experiences.

3. We can reduce fear of the unknown and increase understanding of specific illness or disability by providing age appropriate information to Young Carers. We also help support families by making referrals to other agencies who can support.

4. Children and youth have reduced stress, enhanced peer support, higher self esteem,  and improved schooling as well as attendance.

5. We normalize the Young Carer’s experience and validate them in their role, which reduces their sense of powerlessness.
